“Lovers of themselves”

narcissistFACEBOOK

I’ve been thinking about this post for a while. The topic’s a little painful, but something God’s really been working on me about.  Our culture today is self-absorbed.  “Lovers of themselves”.  All about “me”. I’ve been trying to do a little self-reflection and really align my life with God’s plan for me in this area. I’ll admit that I catch myself doing what I’m writing about as much as anyone else. Ok, well, maybe not as much as some…. But, {Read More}

stages of spiritual maturity…where are you?

Spiritualk-Maturity-425x200

As a coach and pastor’s wife, I really enjoy working with women who want to live intentionally and align their life with God’s desires for them.  One of the most exciting things is to watch them grow spiritually and deepen their faith.  It’s sometimes easy to begin that relationship with Christ, but it can be really hard to “live it out” on a day-to-day basis — especially when hard times come. One of the things that I love about coaching {Read More}

My big dream

sunflowers and red barn

My big dream (and prayer) is to have a small, farm-like setting with a red barn for my coaching and ministry center. Ok, who am I kidding….I’m going to have a miniature donkey and my daughter wants a pig, and then I’m sure I’ll probably want another animal or two, so it will be a full-blown farm. (There are actually proven therapeutic benefits from petting animals, so John should really be all for my farm and donkey idea…. right?  Of {Read More}

They called him David

twins miracle

David I realized what I had just heard, and for a brief moment, the world around me stood still.  At least, that’s what it felt like. My oldest son, Isaac, is a college student majoring in both English and Theater.  We went to his campus last week, about 4 hours away, to see his play.  He had the lead role and we were really excited to see it.  As I sat down in my seat to watch, I glanced at {Read More}

Green Beans and Grief

missing mom breast cancer ribbon

Today I had green beans — and that’s all it took. I immediately thought of Mom.  They tasted a lot like hers did. Triggers.     Grief seems to be full of them.  They can come out of nowhere and ambush you.  Sometimes it’s the most unsuspecting things– like green beans. Mom was a good cook.  I loved her green beans.  She would always make a huge pot full.  Southern style with potatoes and bacon in them.  I could eat {Read More}

What makes your heart sing?

heart sing

Have you ever stopped to reflect on what gives you true joy in life and makes your heart sing? We’re all unique, so our answers to that question will also be unique. When you were a child, what kinds of things made you happy?  What about now?  What brings a smile to your face and makes you feel relaxed and at peace with the world and yourself?  You know what I’m talking about.  I’m sure something comes to mind.  Your {Read More}

It’s ok not to be perfect

its-okay-not-to-be-perfect

Confession time:   I usually strive for excellence or for things to be perfect in many areas of my life. Who can relate? ( We’ve probably all been there at one time or another.) We can be so driven that we set the bar too high.  We often hold ourselves to higher standards than we even hold for others. It might not even be realistic but we still strive for that high expectation anyway. It doesn’t have to be that way {Read More}

Do your relationships drain or inspire you?

people inspire or drain

It really is true.  Some people inspire us, while others completely drain us.  Have you ever noticed that? Our happiness, success and failure in life are greatly influenced by the people whom we spend our time with.  We’re typically happier and more successful when we’re around other happy and successful people. Do you have people in your life who really drain you?  Maybe every time you’re  around them you walk away and it just feels like a negative experience.  The {Read More}

Should you take on another commitment?

yes or no

If you’re like me, your life is probably pretty busy.  There are so many things we can be involved in and before we know it, we can easily be maxed out and in over our heads.  Many of them are “have to’s” and others are just wants or desires… things we enjoy, would like to do, always wanted to learn, etc. Sometimes we make ourselves busier than we need to be.  We over-commit.  There could be many reasons behind that, {Read More}
